The Reynolds Homestead's Community Engagement Center was filled with nearly 100 people singing and enjoying lively spiritual music on Feb. 9 during the annual gospel concert celebrating Black History Month.

Bishop Burgie L. Penn, pastor of Trinity Church of the Living God in Stuart, Virginia, has been the coordinator of the popular event for more than 30 years.

Penn opened the concert by leading the audience in song, followed by performances from the Trinity Church Choir and Christian View Church Pastoral Choir.

A highlight of the program was a liturgical dance performed by the Community Pentecostal Praise Dancers. Della Carter, a member of the Rock Spring Plantation Descendants Committee, choreographed the program. She said it was designed to honor ancestors who were buried in the cemetery at the Reynolds Homestead.

Barry Hutchins, a singer/songwriter performed two original songs, and the program closed with a song performed by a four-generation ensemble that included Penn, her son on guitar, her grandson on drums, and her great-grandson on keyboard.
